From prototype to funded startup: what Cohort '25 taught us about traction

Trafy founders pitching at Cohort 25 Pitch Day

When Cohort '25 wrapped, the numbers surprised even the mentors who'd been in the room every week: over ₹1 Cr in grants allocated to student startups, 25+ VC meetings booked for selected teams, and seven startups that went straight from cohort project to incubation.

None of that happened because the ideas were flawless on day one. Most weren't. It happened because every team was forced to find real users before they were allowed to obsess over the product. Pitch Day wasn't the finish line; for most teams it was the first time they said their idea out loud to someone who could actually write a check.

The pattern that separated the funded startups from the rest wasn't polish. It was evidence. Teams that walked into investor meetings with even a handful of active users and a clear "here's what changed after we shipped this" story consistently out-performed teams with slicker decks and no traction to back them up.

It's the same principle Cohort '26 is being built around: build first, pitch second, and let the traction do the talking.
